Different Forms Of Energy
All the energy around us needs to be stored, converted or amplified. This is done so that we have a large amount of energy at our disposal. All the energy sources have been classified in three categories. These forms of energy are: renewable sources, nuclear sources, and of course, fossil fuels.
The most common source of energy is represented by the fossil fuels, such as coal, natural gas and petroleum. This source of energy has been used ever since the Industrial Revolution. Fossil fuels are easy to use and to obtain energy, because the process is very simple and implies combustion. The problem with these sources is that once they are done, they are gone forever. Also, the excavation and the combustion process hurt the environment by polluting it. And, all the burning of the fossil fuels causes the "Greenhouse effect".
On the other hand the renewable sources don't do so much harm to our atmosphere. Hydroelectric, wind and solar energy are the renewable sources. Solar energy, is as the names says it, the energy provided by the sun. People use it to obtain electricity of to heat water. The sun also influences the energy in the wind. The sun heats the air. The heated air rises up, and the process is repeated all the time. All this movement forms the major wind that blow on the surface of the Earth. Wind is used with the help of windmills. The number of the windmills in a certain area and the strength of the wing influence the amount of electricity obtained. Although people know few things about biomass energy, this is one of the oldest energy sources used by man. The process is very simple. Biomass is the conversion of the energy contained by plants into energy that we can use. The most common way to obtain biomass energy is by burning wood. But this is not all. Scientists are working on technologies able to transform animal waste products and different kind of trash into energy.
And the last of the three forms of energy is the nuclear energy. About 20% of the electricity on Earth is produced by using nuclear power. In the World War II nuclear power was used to drop bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Since then, science people realized that they can use this for good purposes. From that moment more and more nuclear plants appeared. The amount of energy provided by them is huge.
